Manufacturing Industry Pursue Production After Lebaran Holiday PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 22 June 2018

The Ministry of Industry believes the manufacturing industry will increase its productivity return after the Lebaran 2018 holiday period, which will boost positive growth in the third quarter of 2018 or higher than the previous period.

"Yesterday the transportation of goods is limited, coupled with a long holiday than usual. But this can be pursued in the third quarter later, "said Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto through his statement in Jakarta.

Minister of Industry believes that the momentum of elections of regional heads (pilkada) which take place in 2018 in various regions in Indonesia, have a positive impact on the production of a number of manufacturing industries.

"Especially later there will also be elections, of course the demand for more products," he said.

Airlangga also mentioned that some manufacturing sectors are likely to grow sharply due to the high domestic demand during Ramadan and election, among others the food and beverage industry, textile and textile products and footwear industries.

"In fact, the printing industry will also increase," he said.

Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, in the first quarter of 2018, large and medium-scale national manufacturing industries in the country increased production by 0.88 percent, higher than quarter IV / 2017 quarter to quarter (q to q) and grew 5, 01 percent from quarter I-2017 year on year (y on y).

Furthermore, the non-oil / gas processing industry grew by 5.03 percent in the first quarter of 2018, an increase over the same period in 2017 of about 4.80 percent. The highest growth sectors were machinery and equipment industries at 14.98 percent.

Brilliant performance was also followed by food and beverage industry which reached the growth rate of 12.70 percent, then basic metal industry 9.94 percent, textile and apparel industry 7.53 percent, and transportation equipment industry 6.33 percent.

Based on Indonesia's purchasing managers index (PMI) released by Nikkei and Markit, the national manufacturing industry's movement is increasingly expansive because it is driven by the fastest growing demand since July 2014.

In addition, domestic production has continued to show growth over the past four months and has been the longest expansion period since five years ago.

The achievement is seen from the Indonesian PMI in May 2018 which touched the highest position in 23 months, which amounted to 51.7 or up from 51.6 the previous month.

Minister of Industry affirmed during this time that his party focus on running the industry downstream program that consistently gives a chain effect to the national economy. The positive impacts are among others the increase in the added value of domestic raw materials, the absorption of local labor, and the acceptance of foreign exchange from exports.

"We are also actively encouraging increased investment and export values especially in the manufacturing sector," he said.

This effort is believed to be able to spur the growth of national economy and can create equitable development and community welfare.

Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Haris Munandar said that transportation restrictions on certain dates will affect the export activity of the manufacturing industry. "Indeed, if long holiday, supply for export can be late," he said.

Nevertheless, Haris is optimistic that every industry has its own strategy to overcome the fulfillment of domestic and export products. "Surely they have a way to anticipate this," he added.

In the first quarter of 2018, the manufacturing industry recorded export value of 32 billion US dollars, up 4.5 percent compared to the achievement in the same period last year at 30.6 billion US dollars.

Industri Manufaktur Kejar Produksi Setelah Libur Lebaran

Berdasarkan data Badan Pusat Statistik, pada kuartal I tahun 2018, industri manufaktur nasional skala besar dan sedang di dalam negeri mengalami peningkatan produksi sebesar 0,88 persen, lebih tinggi dibanding kuartal IV/2017 quarter to quarter (q to q) dan tumbuh 5,01 persen dari kuartal I-2017 year on year (y on y).
