Executive Director Indotextiles, Redma Gita : "The increase in basic electricity price even below 10% for the industry will become a new burden for the textile industry, but if it was followed by the elimination of tariff Multiguna and Dayamax, the competition among the domestic textile company would be more fair"

Export deficit still haunts Indonesia PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 05 February 2010

Relating to the AC-FTA implementation, some parties highlight export and import growth from Indonesia to China. The issue was expressed by the Head of Fiscal Policy at the Ministry of Finance, Anggito Abimanyu.

He stated that the growth of international trade with China, Indonesia export got deficit. In the Hearing with the House of Representatives’ Commission XI (2/1), he focused on the import that greater than export growth.

Anggito explained Indonesia's export to China was really increasing, i.e. from 6.5 percent in 2004 to 9.9 percent in 2009.  However, Indonesia’s import from China was far greater, namely 8.8 percent in 2004 to 12.1 percent in 2009.

According to him, a big ratio of export-import figure makes Indonesia as a recipient country.

Increase in percentage of export to China is negatively proportional with Indonesian export to the U.S. and Japan. In 2004, the U.S. recorded contributing 12.3 percent of total export, and then the number decreased to 9.8 in 2009. As for Japan, in 2004 Indonesia's total export reached 22.3 percent, and then fell to 16 percent in 2009.

Similarly, Indonesia's import figure from the U.S. and Japan, where in 2009 was recorded to 6.3 and 8.7 percent, down from 6.9 and 13.1 percent in 2004.

Upon this, the Vice Chairman of Commission XI Achsanul Qosasi said the government should be aware of depreciation of the Yuan value by 17 per cent against the Rupiah. It affects the price of Indonesian goods in China will be 17 percent more expensive. In the contrary, in Indonesia, the China goods will be 17 percent cheaper.

Achsanul said it could be a bad development for free-market policy of Indonesia.

Defisit Ekspor Masih Menghantui Indonesia

Export deficit still haunts Indonesia
