Apsyfi: There Efforts Systemic Damaged National Textile Sector PDF Print E-mail

Indonesian Synthetic Fiber Producers Association (Apsyfi) suspect a systemic and deliberate attempt to undermine the national textile industry through a series of anti-industry policy. Secretary General Apsyfi Redma Gita Wirawasta ensure the collapsed condition of the textile industry and textile products such as this is not surprising because it is unpredictable since two years ago.

In 2013, it had filed an antidumping petition filament yarn and recommend the imposition of safeguards on all textile products from upstream to downstream. However, interested parties in the practice of import refused this proposal, even the imposition of anti-dumping efforts filament yarn has foundered in the middle of the road.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in the last five years, the average textile imports rose by 19.9%, exports rose 6.8%, while public consumption rose 18.3%. These conditions, he said, it is certain that the growth in textile consumption in the domestic market encroached on imported goods, while exports did not grow significantly.

Redma explain the global economic slowdown led to oversupply conditions that textile producers in other countries to slam the price to be the main cause of deterioration of the textile industry today.

However, if the government anticipatory control of imports and provide space for the domestic market on a larger local producers, the conditions will be much different. "At least we have a place to sell and the industry could still continue to produce" Redma said, Tuesday (26/05/2015).

Apsyfi calculations based on data sourced from Bank Indonesia, people's purchasing power in the last five years continued to rise, namely textile consumption rose from 1.21 million tons in 2009 to 1.75 million tons in 2014. Besides driven by increases in population, consumption was also caused by the increase in per capita consumption increased from 5.03 kg in 2009 to 6.82 kg in 2014.

The weakening of private consumption in the first quarter / 2015, he said, no significant effect on the textile industry because it is basically the trend of economic growth and a significant increase in wages has encouraged the strengthening of the purchasing power.

"If we are weak purchasing power, there's no way Uniqlo, H & M and other world brands to open stores in Indonesia. This year alone they still continued to add his outlets, "he said. The fundamental problem that needs to look for solutions, he said, is the increase in private consumption is actually filled by imported goods or the import of raw materials so that each year the national foreign exchange drain and shrinking market share of local products.

Apsyfi: Ada Upaya Sistemis Rusak Sektor Pertekstilan Nasional
