Market Trend Textile and Fashion Industry in Indonesia. Speaking textile and fashion industry in Indonesia, the market value (market size) offered very tempting. It was reasonable given the textile and fashion industry is a primary need of Indonesian society, although purchasing power is not as big as Singapore.

The market value of the textile and fashion industry in Indonesia in 2015 is estimated to reach US $ 15.19 billion or equivalent to Rp 208 trillion (exchange rate of Rp 13,700 / US $)

Slowing growth in 2015 partly due to the weakening of the purchasing power of local consumers following the depreciation of the rupiah against the US dollar, a slowdown in the Indonesian economy, as well as the drop in world commodity prices.

Of the market value, approximately 20% supplied by imported products and 80% are still controlled by local producers, according to data from the Ministry of Industry (Ministry of Industry) and the Indonesian Textile Association (API). Products imported largely dominated the incoming illegal products smuggled to avoid import duties, so the price is 40% cheaper than local products.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in the last 5 years, the average textile imports rose by 19.9%, exports rose 6.8%, while public consumption rose 18.3%. This condition may be that the market growth encroached on the domestic market of imported goods, while exports did not grow significantly.

Meanwhile, according to calculations of data Indonesian Synthetic Fiber Producers Association (APSyFI) sourced from Bank Indonesia, the purchasing power in the last 5 years continues to increase where textile consumption rose from 1.21 million tons in 2009 to 1.75 million tons in 2014. In addition encouraged by increases in population, consumer spending also caused by the increase in per capita consumption, which rose from 5.03 kg in the year 2009 to 6.82 kg in the year 2014.

Textile and fashion industry in Indonesia actually has advantage compared to competitors in the world. It was seen from about 200 brands of clothes (fashion brand) world is produced in Indonesia, such as Zara, Adidas, Nike, The North Face, Amer Group, Salomon, Arcteryx, Calvin Klein and H & M.

Saiful Bahri, Member of the Association of Textiles Indonesia (API) field of Data and Information, said that Indonesia's potential involvement in producing products renowned in the world will continue to grow. "Yesterday I record about 150 to 200 brands of the world are produced in Indonesia," said Saiful.
