The Ministry of Industry supports the production of rayon fibers for textile needs by PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (RAPP), because it is able to strengthen the structure of the textile industry in the country. The rayon fiber to be produced using raw materials RAPP accasia plants, which grow on peat.

"Rayon the alternative raw material for textiles. Indonesia does not have cotton. This could be import substitution," said Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartanto after meeting President Director Tony Wenas RAPP on Thursday.

Director General of Agro Industry Ministry Panggah Susanto said, rayon fiber production is very important to strengthen the structure of the textile industry, so as to improve competitiveness.

"If you say the sunset textile industry, as well as baseball yes indeed be strengthened structure of the industry. We should move toward an increasingly strong industrial structure with the rayon this project," said Panggah.

According Panggah, today rayon have been produced in Indonesia, but using raw materials called staple fiber which are imported from India.

RAPP invested through Sateri Viscose PT International (SVI) will add rayon fiber production capacity of 350 thousand tons from the current capacity of 600 thousand tons.

Panggah added, with an investment of Rp15 trillion, SVI will begin to produce rayon from upstream into dissolving pulp then rayon.

"So it is integrated. It's great. So later addition will strengthen its structure textile industry, could also export," said Panggah.

Construction of the factory located in Pelalawan, Riau, it will absorb 4,230 people during the construction phase and 1,218 people at the stage of operation of the plant.

To that end, the Ministry of Industry encourages the construction of the plant can be quickly realized, so that it can more rapidly strengthen the structure of the national textile industry.

"Now the Ministry of Industry asked that all parties support to this project. We still have a little obstacle clearance related to the EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) and RW RT. Hopefully it does not matter," said Panggah.

Produksi Serat Rayon Perkuat Struktur Industri Tekstil
