Implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) became an important momentum for ASEAN countries to further enhance economic cooperation are complementary to each other. The reason for the majority of trading nations of ASEAN member countries is actually done with non-ASEAN countries.

This was said by Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartanto when speaking at the Conference on Indonesian Foreign Policy (CIFP) in 2016 with the theme The Asian Economic Community: Are We Ready? How Can We Better Compete and Excel in the AEC / AEC? in Jakarta, on Saturday, September 17, 2016. "We are seeing, this could indicate a MEA implementation of intraregional trade potential of ASEAN to be utilized optimally. Therefore, the implementation of MEA, is expected to create strong economic development in the ASEAN region as a whole, "he explained.

According to Airlangga, it has long been charted industrial sectors that need to be strengthened its market penetration in the domestic and industrial sectors need to be prepared to compete in the ASEAN market. The industrial sector is believed to be able to compete in the ASEAN markets among others, the industrial sector agro (cocoa, rubber, palm oil), fish and processed fish products, textiles and textile products, footwear and leather, furniture, food and beverages, fertilizers and petrochemicals, industrial automotive, machinery and tools, as well as the iron and steel industry. Instead, the Ministry of Industry has a number of industries that feared fortify its market share in the country can be exposed to shocks due to the implementation of MEAs.

"In addition to preparing an offensive strategy to penetrate the ASEAN market, we also have to anticipate the defensive strategies for strengthening the domestic market towards certain industrial sectors, such as automotive, electronics, cement, apparel, footwear, food and beverages, as well as furniture," said Airlangga.

In addition, Airlangga reminded that Indonesia can continue to improve various aspects related to global competitiveness index. Furthermore, strengthening and deepening the industrial structure in order to increase the competitiveness of products needs to be done consistently and continuously. "Lastly, improving the quality of human resources industry is also very urgent to be done through the certification of competence," he said.

Continued to expand

Earlier, Industry Minister receives Chairman of Indonesian Listed Companies Association Franciscus Welirang in the Ministry of Industry, Jakarta, on Friday afternoon 16 September 20,162,016). On the occasion, Minister of Industry expects issuers or companies that have been listed in the Indonesia Stock Exchange in particular the manufacturing industry to continue its expansion in Indonesia. It is based because the demand for manufactured products is still quite high. Related to this, the government would set up incentives for industrial issuers are willing to increase the capacity in the country. Moreover, he argues, the manufacturing industry has become a public company or is not open judged to have excelled in the sector.

"We will call on industry players who had the exchange floor, especially the manufacturing sector for expansion as demand was still there. They as companies in the sector already superior. For those who've invested, we provide the opportunity for expansion, "he said.

Airlangga said, related to the financing of expansion, as companies that have the exchange floor, it should not be difficult to get funding for expansion. In addition, with tax amnesty hope will increase the confidence of investors to put their funds in Indonesia. "For their own financing in the capital market, so much easier. And, this tax amnesty momentum for the resumption of market confidence. This can be exploited, "he said.

MEA Momentum Meningkatkan Kerjasama Kekuatan ASEAN

The Asian Economic Community: Are We Ready? How Can We Better Compete and Excel in the AEC/MEA? di Jakarta, pada Sabtu 17 September 2016.
