Termination of employment (FLE) in East Java increased by 15 percent in 2016 compared to 2015. The total layoffs in East Java had reached 8,312 workers. It happened because of the slowing performance of the industry in East Java. Head of Manpower, Transmigration and Population (Disnakertransduk) Java Sukardo said the increased numbers of layoffs in 2016 is inseparable from the performance of labor-intensive industries are declining.

Especially footwear and textiles accounted for 40 percent of total layoffs in East Java. '' In fact, labor-intensive industry is the sector with the highest employment, "he said

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Jatim record the performance of the manufacturing industry is experiencing a contraction of 5.40 percent during 2016.

Whereas in 2015, Dinaskertransduk Jatim recorded a total of 7,600 layoffs reached pekerja.Mayoritas layoffs came from the paper industry and smoking. The increase UMK (city minimum wage) is also an obstacle for labor-intensive industries, particularly in the area of the first ring, which reached eight percent.

'' It is quite burdensome labor intensive sectors. Therefore, the increase in MSE is not in line with sales growth, "terangnya.Di East Java, the highest layoffs came from Surabaya, which reached 2,024 workers. Then, Gresik, Mojokerto with 1,672 layoffs and 1,321 workers.

The footwear industry in East Java last year experienced a decline in production by 30 percent. Sluggish production of footwear in East Java is the impact of weak demand for exports and domestic demand.

'' As in Jombang, no relocation of footwear factories around 2 thousand people affected by layoffs, but the data have not been reported, '' said Sukardo

Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) Jatim mencatat kinerja industri manufaktur memang mengalami kontraksi 5,40 persen sepanjang 2016.

Industri alas kaki Jatim tahun lalu mengalami kelesuan produksi sebesar 30 persen.
