Recovery in advanced economies are still slowing has pressured global economic growth. But amid the global economic downturn, the position of Indonesia as a developing country is still quite good for being able to record economic growth of 5.02 percent in 2016.

Director of the Textile and Miscellaneous Chemical Industry Ministry of Industry (Ministry of Industry) Achmad Sigit Dwiwahjono said national economic growth in 2016 is better than the previous year. The growth was caused by the growth of non-oil and gas processing industry better.

He explained that, based on data from BPS in 2016 the national trade balance surplus of US $ 6.8 billion. The surplus of the total, US $ 1.5 billion derived from the value of import-export and processing of non-oil and gas industry.

"The total national exports of US $ 144.3 billion, while total imports 137.5 billion. That means our trade balance surplus of US $ 6.8 billion," he said, in Jakarta, Thursday (09/02/2017).

Sigit also revealed that Indonesian national competitiveness has been ranked among the top 19 of the 40 countries in the Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index (GMCI) in 2016. It is estimated that the index rose to the rank of 15 in 2020.

"2016 yesterday Indonesia may be ranked 19 out of 40 countries GMCI. Year 2020 is estimated to rise to 15th," he continued.

To improve competitiveness, Sigit deliver some of the strategies that will be conducted by the Ministry of Industry. Among other things, increase the added value of Natural Resources (SDA), strengthening the Human Resources (HR) through vocational industries, deepening the industrial structure through the strength of the industrial chain, and developing industrial areas.

"Such a strategy could hopefully bring Indonesia into a better again," he said

Currently, the government has built 14 industrial zones with Indonesia centric approach. Within the next three years, the development of seven industrial estates Tanjung Boton (Riau), Dumai (Riau), Berau (East Kalimantan), Land Yellow (Kaltara), JIIPE (East Java), Kendal (Central Java), and Serang (Banten) will accelerated.

"The construction is done in order to reduce the gap as well as efforts to develop industrial areas ranging from the periphery," he said.

"Total ekspor nasional US$ 144,3 miliar, sedangkan total impornya 137,5 miliar. Berarti neraca perdagangan kita surplus US$ 6,8 miliar," ujar dia, di Jakarta, Kamis (9/2/2017).
