Illegal imports of textile products still spreads in the country. Approximately 16.7 percent of textile products consumed throughout the year ago unclear origin. Secretary General of the Association of Synthetic Indonesia (Apsyfi) Redma Wirawasta estimate the volume of textile and garment products circulating illegally last year reached 310 thousand tons.

The figure comes from the difference between the volume of textile consumption by volume summation of domestic industry and the volume of imports recorded by the Central Bureau of Statistics.

Redma estimate the total consumption of textiles Indonesia throughout 2016 reached 1.86 million tons. Volume sales of domestic textile manufacturers totaled 1.4 million tons, while import volume reached 151 thousand tons.

"We propose that created rules for textile products which may be imported only the products that can not be produced domestically. This is to avoid a repeat, "said Redma.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Ade Sudrajat said the government could prevent the importation of products that have been produced in the country through the postal rates change.

He explained that often there are several products that can go to Indonesia because it was recorded on the same tariff heading with other products that can not be produced locally. The government can assign more specific tariff lines to prevent these products get into the country market while ensuring that the products can not be produced locally producers can get in without a hitch.

Redma memperkirakan total konsumsi tekstil Indonesia sepanjang 2016 mencapai 1,86 juta ton. Volume penjualan produsen tekstil domestik tercatat sebanyak 1,4 juta ton, sedangkan volume impor mencapai 151 ribu ton.
