Indonesia's textile industry uninterested join TPP PDF Print E-mail

Chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association Ade Sudrajat said that if Indonesia still choose to join the Trans-Pacific trade agreement or Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), will be just a waste of time and cost. "Because the fall we'll just become a member and have to start negotiations from scratch," said Ade. He continued with the release of United States (US) from the TPP, the competitive landscape will change the world's exports.

Ade said that during the appeal of the TPP for textile manufacturers is the presence of the US and Canada in it. After the US out, it is precisely the existence of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which is more interesting.

"Primarily, the market such as Japan, Korea and the ASEAN Community is now certainly more interesting," he said.

On the other hand, Ade admitted to not worry about the Chinese attitude that will move toward the US sepeninggalan TPP. Because the Indonesian textile industry more absorbed by the markets of America, Europe and Japan.

While the textile manufacturer PT. Asia Pacific Fibers Tbk (POLY) said that, before deciding to join, the government must have a mechanism of protection to the domestic industry.

"Do not let us become a net importer for leniency complacent with export facilities," said freshman Yudha Amdan Executive Assistant President Director of Asia Pacific Fibers (POLY

Last year, nearly 15% of Asia Pacific Fibers textile exports to fill the US market, although the delivery is not directly to the land of Uncle Sam.

According Yudha, import-export schemes matter if Indonesia joined the TPP will largely determine the future textile market. "If the mechanism was completely freed without considering the domestic production capacity, we could be overwhelmed," said Yudha. POLY is the upstream sector of the textile industry that produce raw materials such as polyester and synthetic fibers.

Industri Tekstil Tak Bergairah Indonesia join TPP
