The strength of the domestic market and export growth opportunities to make the textile industry as one of the most potential industries in Indonesia. President Director of PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk (Sritex) and Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association (API), Iwan Setiawan Lukminto, said the chances of Indonesia's textile industry developed more rapidly wide open.

"Textile and garment industry in Indonesia is not a sunset industry, but it is a sunrise industry," he said in a series of events Indonesia-Korea Business Summit, Tuesday (03/14/2017).

Background Iwan optimism over the potential development of the Indonesian textile and garment industry is a global market developments and conditions in the country.

The most recent development is the US decision to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The US move to make Indonesian textile and garment industry to compete more closely with similar industries in Vietnam who have been benefited by the TPP.

BPS data showed garment products are products of Indonesian manufacturing industry with the second highest export value. The export value of Indonesian garment products last year fell from US $ 6.41 billion to US $ 6.23 billion.

Iwan assess Indonesia is one country that is able to record rapid growth of changes in the US position as the market share of the country of origin of textile products in the global market is just 4%.

Indonesia, he added, also supported competitive salary levels. The current government also ensures worker wage rate movements can be predicted through the control of the minimum wage increase.

"The industry in Indonesia is also driven by skilled workers. The combination of a competitive wage and skill that does not exist in any country in the world other than Indonesia, "said Iwan.

Tekstil Diklaim Sunrise Industry

Nilai ekspor produk garmen Indonesia tahun lalu turun dari US$6,41 miliar menjadi US$6,23 miliar.
