US Ambassador to Indonesia, Joseph R Donovan wants to increase industrial cooperation between the US-Indonesia. Such cooperation will mainly be focused on the textile industry. This effort is not because the US is the main supplier of cotton.

At a meeting with a number of businessmen who are members of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) in Jakarta, Tuesday (21/3), Joseph hopes to receive input from the textile entrepreneurs in Indonesia and obtain cooperation pact between the US-Indonesia.

Until the end of 2016, the value of US cotton exports to Indonesia reached 350 million US dollars, the largest compared with other countries.

This is certainly a positive impact on Indonesia to create jobs wider.

Meanwhile, Director General of Chemical Industry, Textile and Miscellaneous Industry Ministry, Achmad Sigit Dwiwahjono said the meeting was the first time with the new US ambassador to Indonesia.

The government plans to speed up the agreement between the two countries more concrete in the field of textile.

"We have a center or center material raw material provider of industrial products, in order to facilitate small and medium industry (SMI) to obtain raw materials at affordable prices," said Sigit.

Sigit explained, cotton imports for the needs of the textile industry in Indonesia reached 70 percent.

The government plans to strengthen the material center of the textile industry in West Java one by setting up special schools to develop other types of cotton but with a different quality.

In addition to establishing the cotton special schools, Sigit also mentioned in order to succeed Kemenperin vocational program, IKTA will cooperate with 500 vocational schools in East Java and Central Java to school practice in the textile industry and other industry that are in scope IKTA.

Currently, the government continues to fight for Indonesian textiles are not subject to tariffs as in Vietnam.

Sigit hope, the future cooperation with the US can be developed mainly to develop the textile industry from upstream to downstream.

"Hopefully, the cooperation with the US to develop the textile industry from upstream to downstream," he concluded.

AS-Indonesia Tingkatkan Kerjasama Industri Tekstil

Hingga akhir 2016 lalu, nilai ekspor kapas AS untuk Indonesia mencapai angka 350 juta dollar AS, terbesar dibanding dengan negara lainnya.
