Domestic textile industry is targeting a surplus of 5 billion US dollars until the end of 2017. Chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association Ade Sudrajat said the target was increased from 2016's achievement of only 4.6 billion US dollars. He is optimistic that the surplus target set by the end of next year can be achieved given the increasing demand from significant export markets in the first quarter of 2017.

"There is a surplus of 1.29 billion US dollars from exports in the first quarter," he said, when contacted Republika.co. Id, Monday (24/4).

Ade said, the increase in exports comes from the main market of textile products from Indonesia, namely the United States and Europe. He sees this as a very positive achievement given that Indonesia does not have access to special trade on the two continents. "We do not have a zero percent import duty facility, but exports may increase," he said.

Ade is of the view that the main factor driving export demand is the increasing competitiveness of Indonesian textile products. He explained, in the last two years there is an increase of textile factory investment in Central Java which makes production increase. It is also supported by a number of other factors such as reduced dwelling time at ports, increasing number of garment operators from vocational education, to incentives given by the Ministry of Finance. "This makes the manufacture and delivery time of finished goods shorter," said Ade.

According to him, so far, Indonesian textile products are less competitive than competing state-owned products, namely India, Vietnam and Bangladesh. Ade said, it is because geographically, the position of Indonesia farthest to the world's largest textile export destination countries, namely America and Europe.

Industri Tekstil Nasional Berpotensi Raup Surplus Perdagangan

Industri tekstil dalam negeri menargetkan surplus 5 miliar dolar AS hingga akhir 2017.
