The government is asked to move quickly to anticipate the trend of slowing growth in the textile industry sector. Because a number of yarn spinning companies plan to stop the operation because they feel Indonesia is no longer an investment-friendly market.

The Indonesian Filament and Fiber Producers Association (APSyFI) expects the government to immediately eliminate various provisions that are not aligned to the industry chain from upstream to downstream. One of them is the restriction policy on import of textile raw materials.

Chairman of APSyFI V. Ravi Shankar said the restrictions on raw material imports did have a positive impact on the upstream textile industry. "But the impact for the intermediate and downstream industries of textiles is not so good. Because the price in the country is still high because the cost of production is still very expensive, "said Ravi in a press release Thursday (11/5).

According to him, the government needs to develop a clear work plan for the textile industry. Thus, industry players can take investment decisions that determine the direction of the business. At the very least, the industrial roadmap can be a reference for 15-20 years. "China, India, Vietnam and Bangladesh outperform Indonesia because of its clear industry vision."

Ravi said that there are many textile companies that bear the losses because the price of textile raw materials in the country is getting higher. The restrictions on imports certainly hoist the domestic cost of goods sold into uncompetitive. This tendency has a direct impact on the stability of the textile and textile product chain which is one of the backbone of the national employment absorption.

If the government does not anticipate the issue, it is not impossible to make the textile producers do the termination of employment in an amount not less. Other cost components that make the cost of production increasingly uncompetitive include the high cost of gas and electricity. In addition, the increase in wages into the post cost burden that also needs to be considered.

APSyFI: Industri Tekstil Minta Pemerintah Sigap Atasi Perlambatan

Pemerintah diminta bergerak cepat mengantisipasi tren perlambatan pertumbuhan sektor industri tekstil.
