Textile Manufacturers Demand Cheap Energy PDF Print E-mail

The textile industry expects government support to lower electricity costs. The efficiency of the cost of electricity required the industry to reduce the cost of production and improve product competitiveness.


"In general, energy cost for textile industry is still high. Energy costs need to be lowered in order to compete with other countries, "said President Director of PT Asia Pacific Fibers Tbk. Ravi Shankar.


Ravi said energy costs represent one of the largest cost components for the textile industry. According to him, the cost of electricity charged to the textile industry in the country on average worth US $ 12 cents per kWh.


Meanwhile, Indonesia's main competitor in the textile sector set a much more competitive electricity tariff. He likened textile manufacturers in Vietnam and Bangladesh to be charged US $ 6-7 cents per kWh. The imbalance of energy costs, according to him, became one of the factors of stagnation of the textile industry in the country.


"When viewed 3 years-4 years back textile growth in our flat. At the same time India, China, Vietnam, Bangladesh are growing rapidly. "


The policy of import restrictions is still difficult to stem the competitiveness of domestic textile products. Because the price of textile production from the excess capacity of the four countries is cheaper than domestic products. "Our textile products have not been competitive when compared to cheap imported goods that enter in large quantities."


Central Bureau of Statistics recorded the value of textile and textile industry investment in 2016 worth Rp 7.54 trillion. The sector contributes to exports worth US $ 11.87 billion. The absorption of textile industry workforce reached 17% of the total workforce of the manufacturing industry.



Pabrikan Tekstil Tuntut Energi Murah



Industri tekstil mengharapkan dukungan pemerintah untuk menurunkan biaya listrik. Efisiensi biaya listrik diperlukan industri untuk menekan biaya pokok produksi dan meningkatkan daya saing produk.


“Secara umum energy cost untuk industri tekstil masih tinggi. Energy cost perlu diturunkan supaya bisa bersaing dengan negara lain,” ujar Presiden Direktur PT Asia Pacific Fibers Tbk. Ravi Shankar .


Ravi menyatakan biaya energi merupakan salah satu komponen biaya terbesar bagi industri tekstil.  Menurutnya, biaya listrik yang dikenakan bagi industri tekstil di dalam negeri rata-rata senilai US$12 sen per kWh.


Sementara itu, negara negara pesaing utama Indonesia di bidang tekstil menetapkan tarif listrik yang jauh lebih kompetitif. Ia mengumpamakan pabrikan tekstil di Vietnam dan Bangladesh dikenakan biaya listrik senilai US$6-7 sen per kWh. Ketimpangan biaya energi itu, menurutnya, menjadi salah satu faktor stagnasi industri tekstil di dalam negeri.


“Kalau dilihat 3 tahun-4 tahun ke belakang growth tekstil di kita flat. Pada saat yang bersamaan India, China, Vietnam, Bangladesh tumbuh pesat sekali.”


Kebijakan pembatasan impor pun masih sulit membendung daya saing produk tekstil dalam negeri. Sebab harga produksi tekstil dari kelebihan kapasitas keempat negara itu lebih murah ketimbang produk domestik. “Produk tekstil kita belum kompetitif kalau dibandingkan dengan barang impor murah yang masuk dalam jumlah besar.”


Badan Pusat Statistik mencatat nilai investasi industri tekstil dan produk tekstil pada 2016 senilai Rp 7,54 triliun. Sektor itu berkontribusi terhadap ekspor senilai US$ 11,87 miliar. Penyerapan tenaga kerja industri tekstil mencapai 17 % dari keseluruhan tenaga kerja industri manufaktur.
