Majalaya Textile Ask For Export Market Development PDF Print E-mail

Majalaya sarong textile business practitioners, Bandung regency, West Java, expect the government to provide market guidance for them. The reason is, their market in the country is considered saturated so it needs to be expanded by working on exports.

Satya Natapura, President Director of PT Satya Sumba Cemerlang, one of the textile companies in Majalaya, said that domestic sarong market currently only rely on Tanah Abang Market, Jakarta, which can sell their products to several regions in Indonesia such as Sumatra to Kalimantan.

"The biggest we sell to Tanah Abang, there are also Solo and Surabaya but the volume is small, but we can not rely on the same but it must be expansion if you want to move forward," he said.

According to him, so far the government in this case the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Commerce has never involved sarong textile business actors in the implementation of their programs.

In fact, the perpetrators of Majalaya textile business, although currently 15 entrepreneurs who survive, but able to absorb up to 10,000 workers.

The magnitude, the amount of labor absorbed by the process of this product spelled out long since the weaving, sewing, folding to stamp and repair.

Entrepreneurs are jealous because so far there has been no attention or stimulus to the sustainability of their business.

What Majalaya textile entrepreneurs require is not technical coaching such as making motifs, designs to woven qualities because entrepreneurs have long mastered them, but opened the market for export.

"Because to create a new market is big cost.If any Bandung New Market is not much increase sales because buyers who come from Malaysia and Singapore tend to retail," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of Industry and Trade Cooperative Office (Diskoperindag) Bandung regency, Popi Hopipah admitted that it has not been maximal in conducting guidance to local business actors. But that does not mean it never involves them.

"The proof we involve them in the development of typical batik Bandung regency," he said.

It hopes that if typical batik Bandung regency can be more known to the public, not only in the district of Bandung but also for the West Java and National region.

SALES INCREASE

In the fasting month of this year, sales of Majalaya sarong textile products admitted increased up to 60%.

Although, every time entering Ramadan always increased sales, but sales this year is higher than the previous year which only 20%.

Satya Natapura explained that the soaring market demand this year is due to increased purchasing power and campaign of Malajaya sarong by local government.

"Only in the market is the sarong for the lower middle class whose price is Rp600.000 per kodinya If the price is Rp900.000 per kodinya is less demanded and projected exports," he said.

According to him, the surge in market demand is experienced by all perpetrators of the sarong of Majalaya. During this time, Majalaya sarong product is somewhat no competition, even if there are less imports of Indonesian consumers because of cokraknya.

Foreign products coming to Indonesia come from India and Middle East countries. Domestic consumer loyalty becomes a great potential that can be utilized.

But of course to enlarge the domestic industry is not entirely can be done by entrepreneurs, need government intervention including the development of overseas market.

"For example, the business actor expects the government to make showrooms in Abudabi like China does, we are only those who make it so that we can not compete," he said.

Even so admitted, there is government attention when Majalaya textile industry slumped in 2015 ago. At that time both central government and local governments are promoting the public to use Majalaya sarongs. Only, government intervention is not enough there.

"Currently in a month we can produce 500 kodi sarong, there are also up to 2,000 kodi," he explained.

Tekstil Majalaya Minta Pembinaan Pasar Ekspor
