The government's policy to tighten imported products provides fresh air for local industries. This policy makes local products able to compete.

"Since the tightening of imports by the government of Joko Widodo, the development of the textile industry is getting more excited," said Vice Chairman of Domestic Trade Association of Indonesian Textile Association, Hanan Supangkat, in Jakarta, Wednesday, June 14, 2017.

Weak supervision of imports, said Hanan, could make local products less competitive. The reason is, imported products sold at low prices in the market. As a result, local products increasingly less competitive.

In contrast, imported products are increasingly penetrating the Indonesian market and people are increasingly being pampered. "People become consumptive and this condition also undermines employment," he said.

Hanan said he was not anti with imported products. With a note, the imported products entered through the official channels.

Up 75 Percent

President Director of PT Mulia Knitting Factory said, tightening imported products have a positive impact for business.

He pointed out, during this Ramadan, sales of underwear products that became the mainstay of the company, can increase up to 75 percent. In fact, last year, the highest increase of 25 percent.

Currently, Hanan is still focusing on the domestic market. Given the market share in the country for the type of underwear is very high.

"Many outside products are trying to enter Indonesia because of the large population of our market," he said.

Pengetatan Impor Tingkatkan Gairah Industri Tekstil
