The Ministry of Industry targets the growth of chemical, textile and miscellaneous industries (IKTA) to reach 5.4 percent throughout 2017. This achievement is driven by the rise of investment and expansion in the strategic sector.

"The chemical industry contributes the most growth compared to other IKTA sectors, especially with the National Health Insurance Program (JKN) so the investment in this sector is attractive and the projects are still running," said Director General of IKTA Ministry of Industry Achmad Sigit Dwiwahjono in Jakarta on Friday (9/6).

Although in general the investment in IKTA sector is the highest is the chemical industry. However, at this time, it also spur the development of other industries in order to increase their growth.

"We continue to improve the competitiveness and productivity of the entire industry in order to be able to develop and develop," he explained.

Kemenperin noted, IKTA growth in the first quarter of 2017 amounted to 5.16 percent or up 0.05 percent compared to the same period in 2016. Sigit also details, the growth is sustained by the chemical industry and chemicals goods sector by 10.4 percent.

"Then followed by the rubber industry, namely goods of rubber and plastic 7.52 percent, and leather, leather goods and footwear by 7.41 percent," said Achmad.

Previously, Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto said the Ministry of Industry prioritized the acceleration of domestic petrochemical industry development in 2017. This strategic sector plays an important role as a raw material supplier for many downstream manufactures such as plastic, textile, paint, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.

"Therefore, we are encouraging the investment of petrochemical industry to be realized this year, especially since the last petrochemical plant was built in 1998," said Airlangga.

Airlangga said there are several petrochemical companies that have reported to immediately invest their capital in Indonesia in an effort to increase capacity and build new factories. For example, PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk. As the national industry, will be poured funds of USD 6 billion or around Rp 80 trillion until 2021 in order to increase production capacity.

This year, the company will invest USD 150 million to increase the capacity of 50,000 tons of butadiene per year and 400,000 tons of polyethylene per year. Later, South Korea's petrochemical industry Lotte Chemical Titan will invest USD 3-4 billion or around Rp 52-53 trillion to produce naphtha cracker with total capacity of 2 million tons per year.

Chemical raw materials are required to produce ethylene, propylene and other derivative products. In the first quarter of 2017, the investment value of IKTA sector reached Rp 22.17 trillion. Meanwhile, the target for total investment value in 2017 amounted to Rp 152 trillion. The realization of IKTA sector investment in 2016 reached Rp 122.5 trillion with a contribution of about 37.24 percent on the growth of the national non-oil and gas processing industry.

"Industri kimia memberikan kontribusi pertumbuhan paling besar dibandingkan sektor IKTA lainnya.
