Increase Investment, US Industry Acters Ask for Regulatory Certainty PDF Print E-mail

The Government of Indonesia opens opportunities for cooperation and investment in the industrial sector for US entrepreneurs.

Strengthening bilateral relations is expected to expand export markets for domestic products and enhance partnerships between business actors of both countries.

"In the meeting, there are many things that are questioned by the American delegation. The point is they ask for regulatory certainty until the opening of raw material access in Indonesia, "said Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto after meeting with US-ASEAN Business Council at the Ministry of Industry, as quoted from the official Kemenperin page, Saturday (5/8/2017).

US Delegation led by Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director of US-ASEAN Business Council Michael Michalak brings a number of industry players from Uncle Sam's country, including Adobe, Amazon, Bechel, BP, Cargill, Caterpillar, Chevron, Cisco, Coca-cola , Expedia, Exxon Mobile, GE, GSK, Harley Davidson, Mattel, Oracle, Qualcomm, Time Warner, UPS, Visa and Zoetis.

Airlangga said the cooperation between the two countries especially in the industrial sector needs to be improved again because it is complementary.

"So far, American investment has entered Indonesia primarily in capital-intensive and technology-intensive industries," he said.

Meanwhile, Indonesia can fill it through quite competitive industries such as textile sector, rubber, leather, leather and footwear, and food and beverage industries.

He also said that his party is encouraging bilateral agreement to increase Indonesian textile industry export to US.

"Currently, our textile products are subject to customs duty there at 12.5 percent. Meanwhile, Vietnam has zero percent because there is agreement between the two countries. So, the agreement will also boost the competitiveness of our products, "he explained.

Based on Kemenperin records, the United States is the third major trading partner of Indonesia after China and Japan with total trade value in 2016 reached US $ 23 billion.

The value of US investment in Indonesia in the same year was recorded at US $ 61 million spread across various sectors, including non-metallic minerals industry, food and beverage, machinery and electronics, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.

Tingkatkan Investasi, Pelaku Industri AS Minta Kepastian Regulasi
