Textile and Textile Products Industry (TPT) is one industry that has always been a government priority to be developed. This is because the industry is labor intensive. Based on data from the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), in 2016, the industry is able to absorb labor as much as 17.03 percent of the total workforce in the manufacturing industry, or about 2.9 million workers.

In addition to the labor-intensive industry nature, TPT is a primary requirement for humans. Suppose the current population of Indonesia is about 261 million people. Then everyone buys at least 2 outfits in a year, then there is a need for 522 million pieces of clothing per achievement from within the country.

So the primary need goods, then the potential demand of this industry not only in the country, but also in the global market. Therefore, the textile industry is also an industry that continues to seek to attract exports.

Referring to WTO data, Indonesia is one of 10 countries experiencing trade surplus in trade in TPT sector. The surplus is suspected by China, followed by India, Bangladesh, Turkey and Italy. The five countries are five countries with the largest trade surplus.

In general, textile trade in the global market experienced a trend change after 2000. This was reinforced by the establishment of the WTO in 1995, in which the world trade is as open as the barriers to trade barriers.

Especially for TPT industry, the ending of Multifiber Agreement (MFA), and barrier resistance agreement for TPT products through ATC agreement, also trend of trade trend for textile and textile product.

Ketahanan Industri TPT  Indonesia Di Kancah Pasar Global
