For the textile industry, cotton is an important part. Cotton made as raw material for making cloth. Unfortunately, Indonesia is still a lot of imported cotton from other countries one of them from the United States (US).

Vice Cotton Council International (CCI) for Indonesia, Andy Do, said Indonesia is the fourth largest market for US cotton commodities. Every year, the value of imported cotton to Indonesia reaches about 300 million US dollars to 500 million US dollars.

CCI as a non-profit trade association promoting cotton and cotton products from the United States under the trademark Cotton USA assesses that Indonesia's textile industry is still likely to continue to grow.

"Our growth projection is equal to the projected growth of the textile industry for this year at 3 to 5 percent," Andy said in an Indonesian Cotton Day press conference organized by COTTON USA on Wednesday (6/9).

According to Andy, the characteristics of Indonesia today, the middle class growing and starting to increase. Their needs level up. Not the usual necessities. The need for quality. They can and can afford to buy products by asking for quality. "When talking about quality all in Cotton USA From 100 percent import cotton from abroad, Cotton USA entered about 25 to 30 percent last year," he explained.

Bruce Atherley, Executive Director of CCI, added that American cotton is produced by more than 18,000 family farmers who have been planting the land for decades. Nearly 97 percent of all agricultural land in the US is family-owned.

"The US is the world's third largest cotton producer, representing about 15 percent of the world's total cotton production, the US exporting 95 percent of cotton and filling about 30 percent of the world's cotton production," Bruce explained.

Indonesia Masih Jadi Pasar Keempat Terbesar Kapas Amerika

AS mengekspor 95 persen kapas dan mengisi sekitar 30 persen pangsa produksi kapas dunia," jelas Bruce.
