Almost 100% of cotton needs for textile industry in Indonesia must be imported. Crop cotton that is difficult to be cultivated in Indonesia so the reason. Chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association (API), Ade Sudrajat, said that the largest imported cotton now comes from the United States (US), Brazil, and Australia. The value of imports in a year on average reaches US $ 1 billion.

"The biggest cotton we currently hang cotton raw materials is almost 100% imports, not only from the US, we also import from Brazil, Australia, so that imports we do so far," said Ade Indonesia Cotton Day at Ritz Carlton, Jakarta, Wednesday (6/9/2017).

According to him, although the US is currently the largest cotton exporter country to Indonesia, the place is sometimes overtaken by two other exporter countries such as Brazil and Australia.

"The US is ranked first, it can be taken over by Australia and Brazil, the trend of exchange because it depends on price, harvest time, and quality of each country," explained Ade.

Cotton prices are also up and down. Currently the price of imported cotton is around US $ 1.1 per kg.

"Cotton prices 52 cents per pound, if per kg US $ 1.1. But never ever cotton ever 90 cents per pound, so per kg had US $ 1.9 per kg to US $ 2 per kg, had occurred in 2011-2012. That's why the various industries here can not sell, "explained this textile entrepreneur.

He explained, imported cotton is largely absorbed by the underwear industry as well as footwear, because it absorbs sweat.

"We are import related to end consumer demand, more cotton for what, currently used for underwear, for footwear. Because it absorbs better sweat and exchanges air circulation is good, "said Ade.

Nilai impornya dalam setahun rata-rata mencapai US$ 1 miliar.

” Harga kapas 52 sen per pound, kalau per kg US$ 1,1. Tetapi kan pernah juga kapas pernah 90 sen per pound, jadi per kg pernah US$ 1,9 per kg hingga US$ 2 per kg, sempat terjadi di 2011-2012.
