"The textile industry is also one of the priority industries, so it will be included in the Master Plan of National Industrial Development from 2015 to 2035," said Minister of Industry, Airlangga Hartarto, through his statement in Jakarta on Friday (15/09/2017).

Because, he continued, based on United Nations Industrial Development Organization data published in 2017, that in 2016, Indonesia ranked number 9 in the world for Manufacturing Value Added.

This position is parallel to Brazil and the UK, even higher than Russia, Australia, and other ASEAN countries.

That is why, Airlangga continued, the Ministry of Industry included them in the category of export-oriented industries and labor-intensive industrial sectors.

Currently, Indonesia's textile production reaches 6.62 million tons, with total investment reaching Rp234.3 trillion, and absorbing 2.69 million workers.

Based on the target of the Ministry of Industry, the export value of the textile industry in 2019 is targeted to reach Rp15 billion by absorbing 3.11 million digesters, thus requiring additional new investment and expansion in each sector.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's textile industry trade is dominated by clothing products worth 6.8 million US dollars and yarn worth 1.6 million US dollars in 2016.

Director of Textile Leather Industry and Multifarious Industries Ministry of Industry, Muhdori, said that a number of non-tariff barriers are no longer a barrier, so that Indonesian textile and textile products can penetrate a number of EU and US markets.

This is in line with the stages of the Free Trade Arrangement negotiations between Indonesia and the European Union and the United States.

? "Those countries already recognize the quality of Indonesian textile products are very good, able to meet the tastes of consumers in imported countries," said Muhdori.

In addition, he continued, products from Indonesia are also able to meet the tastes of the fashion designers both in the country and also in the international market.

"International organizations like the International Labor Organization have recognized Indonesia as a country that does not violate international human rights law in the field of labor protection," he said.
