Currently assessed as the right time for the textile and textile industry (TPT) to invest in Indonesia or expand its production capacity. Therefore, the obstacles to the export of Indonesian textile products to the United States (US) and the EU that has been there will be reduced and is expected to make the textile industry re-wriggle.

Director of Textile Industry of Leather Footwear and Multifarious Industry Ministry Muhdori said that a number of non-tariff barriers have not become a barrier for the Indonesian textile industry entering a number of EU and US markets. This is in line with the stages of the Free Trade Arrangement (FTA) negotiations between Indonesia and the European Union and the United States.

"Those countries already recognize the quality of Indonesian TPT products are very good, able to meet the tastes of consumers in import countries, including already able to meet the tastes of fashion designers, both in the country and international markets," he said in Jakarta on Monday (9/18/2017).

In addition, if reviewed globally, based on United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) data published in 2017, Indonesia is ranked number 9 in the world for Manufacturing Value Added (MVA). This position is parallel to Brazil and the UK, even higher than Russia, Australia, and other ASEAN countries.

"In fact, international organizations such as the International Labor Organization (ILO) have recognized Indonesia as a country that does not violate international human rights rules in the field of labor protection," he said.

Based on statistical data, Indonesia's textile industry over the past five years has been influenced by the weakening global economic situation in the world, reaching its lowest point in 2015. However, the industrial sector could bounce back with positive growth, thus in the second quarter of 2017 the industry growth reached 1.92 percent.

Meanwhile, the existing data mentioned, the distribution or spread of the medium and large textile industry is still concentrated in the region of Java which reached 95.6 percent. It becomes the government's duty to further expand its distribution throughout Indonesia, through infrastructure development.

As an illustration, Indonesia's textile industry trade dominated clothing products worth US $ 6.8 million and yarn worth US $ 1.6 million. Despite falling in 2016, this year especially in the second half, exports and trade showed positive growth. Exports grew 2.71 percent, while domestic trade rose 3.69 percent.

Ekspor Lebih Mudah, Industri Tekstil Diminta Tambah Investasi

Sebagai gambaran, perdagangan industri tekstil Indonesia didominasi produk pakaian senilai US $ 6,8 juta dan benang senilai US$1,6 juta.
