Amid the challenges of high tariffs and safe guards by destination countries, Indonesia's export performance continues to show improved numbers. This was conveyed by Minister of Industry, Airlangga Hartarto, in Jakarta, Monday (25/09/2017).

"It is a challenge from exports, so even though we have high import duties, and various safe guards are given, our exports continue," Airlangga explained in a National Seminar entitled "Threat Assessment in National Indonesian National Life Perspective of National Resilience (Focus on Economic, Real Sector, Fiscal, and Monetary Sectors.

For that, he said, in an effort to overcome the threat of existing exports, Indonesia will accelerate bilateral cooperation with several countries.

"Now, the government will accelerate FTA negotiations for example with America and Europe, and the Ministry of Industry is also in talks with counterparts in America to seek breakthroughs so that these tariffs can be lowered," Airlangga said.

Nevertheless, Airlangga said that Indonesia's trade balance position with Europe and America is still surplus.

Known, the Ministry of Industry is boosting exports of textile and textile products (TPT) up to 15 billion US dollars by absorbing 3.11 million workers in 2019.

The Ministry of Industry estimates that textile industry exports will grow an average of 11 percent per year. For the year 2018, set at 13.5 billion US dollars and in 2017 amounted to 12.09 billion US dollars.

On the labor side, by 2018, it is expected that this sector will absorb around 2.95 million people and by the end of this year 2.73 million people.

Bilateral cooperation agreements with the United States and the European Union are encouraged to expand local textile export markets, given that Indonesian textile product export duty is still subject to 5-20 percent, while Vietnam's exports to America and Europe are zero percent.

Menteri Airlangga: Kinerja Ekspor Indonesia Membaik
