A total of 356 graduates of STTT Bandung Polytechnic ready to contribute in increasing the productivity and competitiveness of national textile and textile industry (TPT). One of the education units owned by the Ministry of Industry is focusing on study programs related to the textile industry.

"The textile industry is a labor-intensive sector. To meet the needs of a competent workforce, Kemenperin has had various strategic programs through vocational education and training, "said Secretary General of Ministry of Industry Haris Munandar on Graduation Ceremony of Polytechnic of STTT Bandung, Saturday (9/12).

The strategic program, among others, resulted from graduates of Polytechnic of STTT Bandung and Solo Textile Community Academy, Training 3in1 (training, certification and placement) for garment industry, as well as vocational education that link and match between Vocational High School and industry.

Of the 356 graduates, 238 graduated from Diploma IV or Bachelor Degree from Textile, Textile Engineering, Garment and Fashion Design Concentration. Furthermore, 30 graduates of Diploma III Program of Field Extension Workers (TPL), and 88 graduates of Diploma Program I and Diploma II from cooperation with associations and companies TPT.

"A total of 322 graduates from regular programs, have been accepted to work during graduation. The rest, in three months, will be absorbed in the industry, "said Haris. There is an increase in graduate absorption by 15 percent, where 2016 reached 75 percent and in 2017 to 90.45 percent. This year there are 130 TPT companies who ask directly graduates of Polytechnic STTT Bandung.

Since the first graduation until now, this textile college has graduated as many as 4,248 Diploma IV program, 235 DPL program, 59 D-II program and 1,776 D-I program. This year, graduating as many as 51 people predicate "With Praise", one of them is Philavanh Hueng Phoxai, a graduate from the country of Laos. Philavanh Hueng Phoxai studied at the Garment Production Study Program for four years with scholarship assistance from Kemenperin and got a GPA of 3.56.

According to Haris, the availability of competent human resources (HR) becomes an absolute requirement for the realization of an independent industry and competitive. Another major factor is investment and technology.

"STTT Bandung Polytechnic will open an applied S2 program, which is currently being built master program building with four floors. Since 2013, the three Diploma IV study programs have received A accreditation from BAN PT. We hope also get international accreditation, "he said.

Polytechnics within the Ministry of Industry are developed with specialization in industry. Furthermore, as a center of research and development of industrial products and technology, and cooperate with industry to provide testing service or production service by utilizing workshop facility and laboratory owned.

Then, increase accreditation as a form of recognition of the quality of education, partner with educational and industrial institutions for the development of applied research and collaborate with overseas universities for international journal publications. These steps can make the Kemenperin education unit more competitive in the future.

According to Haris, the graduates of Polytechnic of STTT Bandung fill in some areas which become the center of growth and spread of textile industry in Indonesia, such as West Java and Central Java Province. "More than 67 percent, domestic textile industry is a downstream sector that produces apparel products and other textile goods," he said. Besides, it is an intermediate industry which includes spinning, weaving, knitting, and printing and finishing fabrics.

Based on projected growth of TPT industry in the future, the need for its workforce will reach 135 thousand people per year or 22.5 percent of the total absorption of workers in all industrial sectors as much as 600 thousand people per year. Kemenperin targets, until the end of 2017, the amount of labor absorbed in the national textile industry of 2.73 million people with an estimated export value of USD12.09 billion.

"So, TPT industry sector as a social safety net because it can absorb a lot of labor," he explained. Moreover, TPT industry has a strategic role in the process of industrialization, because the products produced from raw materials (fiber) to consumer goods (apparel and finished goods), have a good relationship between industry and other economic sectors.
