The textile and textile industry (TPT) requires 135 thousand people per year, or 22.5% of the total absorption of workers in all industrial sectors as much as 600 thousand people per year.

"The TPT industry sector as a social safety net, because it is able to absorb a lot of labor," said Director General of Chemical Industry and Various Ministry of Industry Achmad Sigit Dwiwahjono in his official statement on Saturday (9/12).

Moreover, continued Sigit, TPT industry has a strategic role in the process of industrialization, because the products produced ranging from raw materials (fiber) to consumer goods (apparel and finished goods), have a good relationship between industry and other economic sectors.

Sigit targets that the total number of workers absorbed in the national textile industry is 2.73 million people by the end of the year, with an estimated export value of US $ 12.09 billion.

According to him, the positive performance of the textile industry is one of them due to the role of the Task Force on Importation of High Risk Goods Imports set up by the government. Currently, the textile industry can meet domestic demand up to 60%.

Sigit added, another booster factor is through the implementation of fiscal and non-fiscal policies of some package of economic policies that have been issued by the government. This is a step to create a conducive investment climate.

"For example, facilitating the provision of fiscal incentives in the form of tax allowance for industries that develop vocations and innovation," he said.

In order to support the improvement of the performance of the national textile industry, he explained, the government also cut down regulations, licensing, and bureaucracy to facilitate industry players in trying in Indonesia.

In addition, the government also oversees the wage system to ensure certainty for workers and business actors and develop a bonded logistic center (PLB).

Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto revealed, national textile industry is able to compete globally. Because, this mainstay sector has been integrated from upstream to downstream, and its products are known to have good quality in the international market.

"Especially for the sports shoes and apparel industry, we have already passed China. In fact, in Brazil, we have mastered the market there to 80%, "he said.

According to Airlangga, the government is currently working on a comprehensive economic cooperation agreement with the United States and the European Union to expand the local textile export market.

"Currently in the negotiation process for bilateral agreement, the import duty of Indonesian textile products is still subject to 5-20%, while Vietnam export to America and Europe is 0%," he said.

Menteri Perindustrian Airlangga Hartarto mengungkapkan, industri TPT nasional mampu berdaya saing global.
