Chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Ade Sudrajat said the domestic market has a promising potential as the political year and the 2018 Asian Games event. Thus, the textile and textile industry (TPT) can increase market share to above 30% in the domestic market .

In recent years the domestic market share of TPT industry has fallen by 30%, due to tight competition with imported products such as China.

In addition, industry players also have to compete with illegal imports lately later However, he continued, in 2018 TPT industry faces challenges in export markets, especially the European Union.

Ade said, Vietnam in 2018 already get tariff preferences of 0%, so that Indonesia products can be less competitive because it is still charged 11-17%.

"If there is no innovation and improvement in the competitiveness of Indonesian textile products, exports to the European Union could fall by 2-3%," he said.

Moreover, according to Ade, the cost of production of textile industry in the country was still higher than Vietnam. "The cost of labor is the same as Vietnam, but the electricity tariff (Vietnam) is much cheaper. Other costs are also cheaper "said Ade.

According to him, the Indonesian textile industry will inevitably have to compete with Vietnam in the EU market as it remains one of the largest markets. Businesspersons must also expand into non-traditional markets, or increase their exports to other traditional markets such as the US, Japan, and China.

"Inevitably the government should immediately complete the FTA (free trade agreement) with the European Union, otherwise we can not compete," he said.

Industri TPT Fokus Pasar Domestik
