The growth of the textile industry in East Java is not very encouraging compared to West Java and Central Java. One of the causes is the high minimum wage value of the city / regency (UMK) in East Java.

Chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Jatim Sherlina Kawilarang said, MSEs in areas that have bags of textile industry in Central Java in 2018 ranged from Rp 1.5 million to Rp 1.6 million.

While UMK in East Java is higher, ie above Rp 3 million.

"Honestly very difficult to survive in the textile industry with the condition of UMK in East Java like that. Ideally, the UMK for the textile industry in East Java is Rp 1.5 million-Rp 2 million, "said Sherlina,

He said, buyers from abroad will definitely find goods with good quality and cheap production prices.

"If our UMK is like that, how can we compete," added Sherlina.

In addition, the problem of raw materials become obstacles in the textile industry in East Java. Because, East Java does not have upstream industry.

UMK Tinggi, Industri Tekstil Jatim Lesu

Sebab, Jatim belum memiliki industri hulu.
