Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto reviewed the development of the integrated rayon factory, Asia Pacific Rayon (APR) in Pangkalan Kerinci, Pelalawan District, Riau Province.

This factory is the result of investment invested by PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (RAPP) to APR to produce dissolving pulp (soluble pulp) as raw material of rayon. As well, it is an expansion of RAPP business which previously only engaged in the pulp and paper sector.

"With the addition of this plant, Riau is not only a center for the pulp and paper industry, but also now for rayon," Airlangga said.

The investment value of this plant reached USD 1.13 billion or Rp 10.9 trillion with an installed capacity of 350,000 tons per year built since August 2016. "So this is for the first time we have a rayon factory with a world-scale capacity," he continued.

According to Airlangga, the plant's investment also supports the government's agenda of the national textile strategic industry. This project will strengthen the national textile and textile industry (TPT) structure and save foreign exchange about USD 304 million.

Therefore, there are currently 3 rayon factories with a total installed national capacity of 565,000 tons per year in Indonesia. But all raw materials are still imported. In fact, imports of soluble pulp from 2009 to 2016 increased sharply from 204,197 tons worth USD 160.5 million to 488,625 tons valued at USD 422.69 million.

"In addition, the diversification of these products also adds higher value than pulp for paper, with prices ranging from USD 100 to USD 300 per tonne," he continued.

Menperin Tinjau Pembangunan Pabrik Asia Pacific Rayon di Riau

Menteri Perindustrian Airlangga Hartarto meninjau perkembanganan pembangunan pabrik rayon terintegrasi, Asia Pacific Rayon (APR) di Pangkalan Kerinci, Kabupaten Pelalawan, Provinsi Riau, Minggu (21/1).
