The Indonesian Textile Association (API) targets a 2 percent increase in textile and textile products (TPT) value from Central Java in 2018 and reaches 5 percent by 2020.

"With this increase, it is expected that the market share of TPT from Indonesia in the world market can be bigger," said Java API Vice Chairman Liliek Setiawan in Solo on Wednesday.

Based on data from the API, he said, the market share of TPT from Indonesia only about 2 percent of the world textile market. According to him, the figure is lower than the market share of TPT from Vietnam in foreign markets which currently reaches 6 percent.

"Infrastructure Indonesia should be better prepared because it has upstream industry downstream completely, ranging from yarn to fabric industry," he said.

While Vietnam, he said, just has a downstream textile industry. Therefore, the institute assessed with the completeness of existing industries in the country should Indonesia be able to compete with Vietnam.

According to him, to be able to compete with other producer countries requires hard work from the government and TPT industry players.

"With the synergy, I am optimistic that domestic TPT industry can stay afloat in the face of increasingly sharp global competition," he said.

Meanwhile, data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) shows that up to now TPT commodities still dominate Central Java exports throughout the year 2017.

Central Java Provincial BPS recorded that the total export value of Central Java 2017 amounted to 5,993.05 million US dollars, TPT commodity contributed 42.3 percent.

Sedangkan Vietnam, dikatakannya, justru hanya memiliki industri tekstil hilir.

BPS Provinsi Jawa Tengah mencatat dari total nilai ekspor Jawa Tengah 2017 sebesar 5.993,05 juta dolar AS, komoditas TPT memberi andil sebesar 42,3 persen.
