Textile and textile products (TPT) industry continues to grow. Sectors that are relied on in this global market are still likely to continue to increase every year.

As an illustration, the National Board of Indonesian Textile Association (BPN API) released the performance of Indonesian textile industry in 2017, and compared to 2016. The data shows that the export value of Indonesian textile products grew 6% from US $ 11.83 billion in 2016 US $ 12.54 billion in 2017.

Ernovian G. Ismy, Secretary General of BPN API, explained that in the trade balance, TPT products rose 1.7 percent to US $ 3.73 billion last year. "TPT's investment is also up 68 percent from Rp 7.62 trillion in 2016 to Rp 12.81 trillion in last year," he said.

Furthermore, he mentioned the increase of investment in this industry sector in 2017. Domestic investors are still dominated (Domestic Domestic Investment) of 61.4% compared to foreign direct investment (PMA) which only 38.6%. Although all lines are positive, BPN API highlights the problem of imported products that tend to increase.

"Importation is also rising since 2014, it is very necessary to be anticipated because it does not know whether the country benefited or even lost," said Ernovian. BPN API noted imports grew 7.9% from US $ 8.16 billion in 2016 to US $ 8.80 billion in 2017.
