Imports of textiles and textile products soared, producers increasingly uneasy PDF Print E-mail

The surge in imports of national manufactured products is increasingly troubling producers including textile producers. Data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), exports from January to May 2018 rose 6.16% while imports jumped 28.02% (yoy).

Bank Indonesia data in the first quarter of 2018 showed that exports of manufactured products grew only 3.2% while imports jumped by 23.5% (yoy).

Textile and textile exports in the first quarter of 2010 rose 7.9 percent while imports jumped 19.5 percent. The surge in imports also occurred in the sector of Electronics, steel, pulp / paper, rubber products, footwear and furniture which grew by 29.9%, 33.9%, 32.5%, 82.1%, 30% and 46% and other sectors experiencing an average surge above 20%.

Secretary General of Filament Indonesia Fiber and Filament Producers Association (APSyFI) Redma Gita Wirawasta said it had submitted its unrest in writing to the Minister of Trade and related ministries before Lebaran, but to date there has been no response.

"This condition is getting worse, the trade deficit continues to affect the exchange rate, the domestic market is flooded with imported products, export performance is also contained power" explained Redma in a press statement on Thursday (28/6).

According to him the government should immediately fix its trade policy, because so far it is known to be very pro importers. For example the policy in Bonded Logistics Center (PLB) and Permendag 64 2017.

Redma explained that sales in the upstream sector in May-June 2018 fell by 15% due to fabric manufacturers not daring to grab raw materials. "Weaving and knitting producers are looking at imported fabrics in PLB in very large quantities, so after Eid Eid, they can stand it first," he said.

A few days ago, the Minister of Finance stated that the increase in imports is useful to support the industry. However, in the textile sector Redma denied it, because the export increase is not significant with imports, even the utilization of fabric manufacturers is currently below 50% so that all raw materials can be supplied by local producers.

Impor tekstil dan produk tekstil melonjak, produsen makin resah

Lonjakan impor produk manufaktur nasional kian meresahkan produsen termasuk produsen TPT.  Data Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), ekspor Januari-Mei 2018 naik 6,16% sedangkan nilai impornya melonjak hingga 28,02% (yoy).
