This Year Indonesia Textile Export Targeted to Reach Rp 57 Trillion PDF Print E-mail

Textile and Textile Products (TPT) is one of Indonesia's main export commodities. TPT products from Indonesia have been exported to many countries.

This year, the Indonesian Textile Association (API) targets its export numbers to rise by at least USD 4 billion or around Rp 57 trillion (exchange rate of Rp 14,400). The realization of TPT exports last year was only about USD 3.5 billion.

"However, this optimism should be supported by synergy between parties, such as the upstream to downstream producers, TPT supporters and policy makers." Moreover, TPT has proven a huge contribution of 6.39 percent to GDP in 2017, "said Chairman of API Ade Sudrajat

Ade explained TPT industry is one of the important industries in Indonesia and as a mainstay commodity in the manufacturing industry. However, there are still many problems faced by TPT producers. One of them is the price of raw materials available in the country.

"The price of raw materials in the country can not compete with the same materials from import sources," he added.

According to Ade, the price of polyester raw materials in the country reached 13 percent more expensive than the price abroad. This condition, according to him, resulted in the declining competitiveness of Indonesian textile products exports downstream. This significant price difference makes the Indonesian textile industry unable to compete with other countries such as Vietnam and Bangladesh.

So, in order not to worsen the conditions need to work together between producers and policy makers. The objective is to evaluate the application of raw materials import duties and tightening supervision of the relevant ministries.

"It is expected that polyester import duty policy can be reviewed again, then the competitive price of raw materials can increase the productivity of Indonesian textile exports in the world market," he advised.

Tahun Ini Ekspor Tekstil Indonesia Ditargetkan Capai Rp 57 Triliun
