High Import Raw Material Price, Entrepreneur Beware to Determine Market PDF Print E-mail

The high price of imported raw materials needed by the manufacturing industry in Central Java (Central Java) encourages entrepreneurs to be more careful in determining the market for their products.

Chairperson of the Provincial Management Board (DPP) of The Indonesian Employers' Association (Apindo), Central Java Frans Kongi, revealed that almost 70% of  raw materials for manufacturing industries in the province are imported goods. This condition became very unfavorable as the rupiah exchange rate continued to weaken.

According to Frans, amid  pressure of rupiah exchange rate, the government continued to strive to maintain the industrial passion in Central Java by providing various incentives for labor-intensive industries. "I think the government is really concerned, including how to control the US dollar. In essence, we entrepreneurs and the government need each other," he said.

Previously, Deputy Chairman of the Investment Section of Central Java Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Arwin said manufacturing products were now the feature product of Central Java. Almost two-thirds of Central Java's exports are contributed by  manufacturing sector.

"Central Java is strong in manufacturing. This is an attractive target for investors and we need to push it forward," he said.

However, support of domestic supporting industries is still considered to be improved. The reason, the content of supporting goods is generally still imported.

According to him, if the manufacturing industry's raw materials can be produced domestically, then the production costs can be more efficient. Unfortunately, the momentum of the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate can not be fully utilized by the exporters of manufactured products from within the country. The reason, industrial raw materials are still a lot of imports.

Harga Bahan Baku Impor Tinggi, Pengusaha Hati-Hati Tentukan Pasar

"Saya pikir pemerintah betul-betul perhatian, termasuk bagaimana mengendalikan dolar AS ini. Intinya, kami para pengusaha dan pemerintah saling membutuhkan," ucapnya.

Sebelumnya, Wakil Ketua Bidang Investasi Kamar Dagang dan Industri (Kadin) Jateng Bernardus Arwin menyatakan produk-produk manufaktur kini menjadi unggulan Jateng. Hampir dua pertiga ekspor Jateng disumbang sektor industri manufaktur.
