Thursday, 02 August 2018

The Indonesian business and government delegation visited to the United States over the past week have impact to trade and investment cooperation worth US $ 1.01 billion.

This was explain by the General Secretary of the Association of Indonesian Exporters of Fruit and Vegetable Importers (Aseibsindo) Hendro Juwono, who participated in the delegation led by the Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita to Washington D.C. on July 23-27 2018.

More specifically, he outlined that the US $ 1.01 billion cooperation was dominated by agreements to import more US products by Indonesia, rather than vice versa.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Ade Sudrajat revealed a memorandum of understanding / MoU also included an agreement to supply cotton as raw material for textiles and textile products (TPT).

In the agreement, Indonesian TPT entrepreneurs invited large cotton suppliers from Uncle Sam's country, such as Louis Dreyfus, Cargill and Toyo Cotton.

"With this agreement, we can use more American cotton. In turn, the Indonesian textile industry hopes to produce more TPT  export to the US," Ade said.

Through this agreement, the API will open the widest possible opportunity for cotton storage cooperation in Indonesia. The Association will also prepare technical assistance if needed. Even so, no mention of the target of increasing US cotton imports.

MEET USTR

In another development, the Minister of Trade Enggartiasto met with the Ambassador of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) Robert E. Lightizer last weekend, as the top agenda of the visit of the Indonesian delegation to the US to negotiate the generalized system of preferences (GSP) facilities.

At the meeting, Enggar promised Indonesia would increase exports of potential products in the US market. Instead, the Indonesian delegation agreed to be prepared to import more raw materials and capital goods from the US.

Enggar reiterated, Indonesia still needs GSP for product competitiveness in the US market. Moreover, last year Indonesian products that used GSP were only worth US $ 1.95 billion, far below other recipient countries such as India (US $ 5.6 billion), Thailand (US $ 4.2 billion), and Brazil (US $ 2, 5 billion.

Based on the Ministry of Trade's record, the total trade between Indonesia and the US in 2017 reached US $ 25.91 billion. Of these figures, Indonesia's exports reached US $ 17.79 billion and imports were US $ 8.12 billion.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's main export to the US is  shrimp, natural rubber, footwear, vehicle tires and garments. Meanwhile, the main import from the US a.l. soybeans, cotton, wheat flour, cornmeal, and animal feed.

RI-US total trade last year rose 10% compared to 2016 which was recorded at US $ 23.44 billion. Throughout 2013-107, trade between the two countries grew by 0.39%.

Misi Dagang RI ke AS Buahkan Kesepakatan US$1,01 Miliar

BERTEMU USTR

Apalagi, tahun lalu produk RI yang menggunakan GSP hanya bernilai US$1,95 miliar, jauh di bawah negara-negara penerima lain seperti India (US$5,6 miliar), Thailand (US$4,2 miliar), dan Brasil (US$2,5 miliar.

Berdasarkan catatan Kemendag, total perdagangan RI-AS pada 2017 mencapai US$25,91 miliar. Dari angka tersebut, ekspor Indonesia mencapai US$17,79 miliar dan impornya US$8,12 miliar.

Adapun, ekspor utama Indonesia ke AS a.l. udang, karet alam, alas kaki, ban kendaraan, dan garmen. Sementara itu, impor utama dari AS a.l. kedelai, kapas, tepung gandum, tepung maizena, serta pakan ternak.

Total perdagangan RI-AS pada tahun lalu naik 10% dibandingkan dengan 2016 yang tercatat senilai US$23,44 miliar. Sepanjang 2013—107, perdagangan kedua negara tumbuh 0,39%.
