Industry Complains About Gas Prices PDF Print E-mail

Industry players in this country are worried. Because, PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN / PGAS) wants to change the contract by increasing the price of industrial gas. In fact, business people expect gas prices to be cheaper after PGN and Pertagas unite in oil and gas holding.

This condition is a challenge for industries that make gas as a major fuel source, such as the textile and textile products (TPT) and ceramics industries.

For the upstream textile industry, the gas component contributes 20% -25% of the production costs. As for the ceramics industry, gas contributes 30% -35% to production costs or becomes main raw material.

The Secretary General of the Indonesian Filament Yarns and Fiber Producers Association (APSyFI) Redma Gita Wiraswasta said, after Pertagas merged with PGN, the possibility of gas prices rising.

"There has been no increase in the range, but the PGN has come to the company and requested a re-contract," said Redma.

Filament yarn producers such as PT Asia Pacific Fibers Tbk (POLY) expect gas prices to fall in accordance with Presidential Regulation No. 40/2016.

"Hope is that prices can be competitive after a merger," said Assistant President Director of Corporate Communications POLY, Prama Yudha Amdan.

The company hopes the government is more industry friendly. With the Pertagas-PGN merger impacting on competitive gas prices and prices, POLY believes that gas demand in the industry will grow.

"Of course there is a correlation, gas consumption can rise to spur the industry and ultimately the economy moves," said Yudha.

Chairperson of the Indonesian Association of Various Ceramics (Asaki), Elisa Sinaga, said the ceramics businessman had asked at least the price of gas in the areas of West Java and East Java could be the same. Because, until now the difference can be 13%, where the price of gas in West Java is around US $ 9.16 per mmbtu and in East Java it is worth US $ 7.98 per mmbtu.

Plus the weakening of the rupiah against the US dollar, according to him, entrepreneurs are increasingly depressed. "With these fluctuations, the price of gas with the US dollar will also pressure us. Even though the gas component to the production contribution is about 30%," said Elisa.

Industri mengeluhkan harga gas

Ditambah pelemahan nilai tukar rupiah terhadap dollar AS, menurut dia, pengusaha semakin tertekan.
