To strengthen trade relations between Indonesia and the United States (US), two countries agreed to develop a road map to realize increased trade.

This was discussed directly in a bilateral meeting between the Indonesian Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita and US Trade Minister Wilbur Ross, a few days ago at the US Ministry of Trade Office, Washington DC, USA.

"In order to be more effective, the target of increasing trade between the Republic of Indonesia and the United States must be accompanied by a road map whose arrangement must involve the private sector of the two countries," said Enggar.

In fact, he said, textile and textile products businesses agreed to increase trade. The proposed target is USD 50 billion.

Minister of Trade Enggar and Minister Ross saw  importance of the two countries to further enhance bilateral relations by building strategic partnerships amid the current dynamics of global trade.

It should be noted that, the total value of Indonesia's trade with the US reached USD25.9 billion in 2017. Of this amount, Indonesia's exports reached USD17.79 billion and Indonesia's imports amounted to USD8.12 billion. Thus, Indonesia's trade balance against the US surplus was USD9.67 billion.

Open Market Access

During his visit to America, Enggar also attended a meeting of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) and American Apprael & Footwear Association (AAFA) at Townsend House, Washington DC, USA. The dialogue that was discussed discussed Access to the Indonesian-US Textile Association Market.

"The Indonesian government not only encourages this spirit, but also commits to making the textile and garment industry as one of the export priorities," said Minister of Trade Enggar.

According to Minister of Trade Enggar, one of the points of cooperation in the field of textiles and textile products that can be improved is the opening of market access for both countries. The US will export cotton to Indonesia as raw material for textile products. Instead, Indonesia will increase exports of textile products to the US.

"The commodities exported by the US to Indonesia are commodities that we really need. "America can export more cotton to Indonesia if Indonesia can export more garment and textile products to the US," he explained.

Sehingga, neraca perdagangan Indonesia terhadap AS surplus USD9,67 miliar.

Buka Akses Pasar

Dalam kunjungannya ke Amerika, Enggar juga menghadiri pertemuan Asosiasi Pertekstilan Indonesia (API) dan American Apprael & Footwear Association (AAFA) di Townsend House, Washington DC, AS. Dialog yang diutarakan membahas Akses Pasar Asosiasi Tekstil Indonesia-AS.
