Although exports are rise, the margins of the textile business are getting smaller PDF Print E-mail

The weakening of the rupiah against the United States dollar (US) not only has a negative impact on domestic-oriented manufacturing industries, but also exporters. One of the reasons is that the raw materials that are still obtained from imports weigh on the manufacturer's production burden.

Like the domestic textile and garment industry, where according to Ade Sudrajat Usman, Chair of the Indonesian Textile Association (API), the medium and large garment industries are mostly targeting the export market. "Even though there are a lot of exports but still raw materials are purchased using dollars, besides energy like electricity is also with dollars," he said.

Although some industries may obtain exchange differences, according to Ade this matter is not compared to the tax burden received. "With expensive raw materials like this the margins are getting smaller," he said.

According to the API, the growth of Indonesian garment exports in the first half of 2018 grew around 7% year on year (yoy). "Until the end of the year I saw that it could still grow by 5% -7%," said Ade.

This is fairly reasonable, given the wording of the world garment demand growth range of 5% -6%. "If possible, the industry can also follow this growth," he said.

Until now, according to Ade, there will be no significant expansion in the garment sector. "Unless the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) negotiations can be completed, it will boost our export sales to Europe," he said.

Ade believes that if the negotiations run smoothly it will increase exports of textiles and textile products up to three times within three years after the agreement is decided.

Until last year, according to API records, the export value of Indonesian textile and garment products reached US $ 12.6 billion. This year, API is optimistic that its growth can still be pushed to the level of US $ 13 billion.

Meanwhile, garment and textile producers, PT Pan Brothers Tbk (PBRX) are still optimistic about their business achievements during the first semester of this year. The company said that the export market, namely its main business market, still showed an increase in demand.

Anne Patricia Sutanto, Deputy President Director of PT Pan Brohters Tbk stated that for its rigid results, management will issue its first half financial report this year in August. "Indeed there was an increase compared to last year's (first semester 2018), according to our description of about 10%," he said.

So far, considering the first quarter 2018 report yesterday PBRX majority exported to the United States (US) by 32% of revenue or worth US $ 31.4 million, up 6.7% yoy compared to last year. In regional terms, sales in Europe experienced the highest escalation of 78% yoy to US $ 24.8 million, which in the first quarter of last year was only US $ 13.9 million.

Meski ekspor berpeluang naik, margin bisnis tekstil makin mengecil

Menurut API, pertumbuhan ekspor garmen Indonesia pada semester I 2018 ini tumbuh sekitar 7% year on year (yoy).

Sampai tahun lalu, menurut catatan API nilai ekspor produk tekstil dan garmen Indonesia mencapai US$ 12,6 miliar.
