Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said Indonesia would open a tap of imports for US products to respons  of sanctions by the World Trade Organization or the WTO. The United States had previously asked the WTO to impose a Rp.5 trillion sanction on Indonesia.

Import taps that will be opened wide include soybeans, cotton, and beef. According to Enggartiasto, three imported goods are needed domestically.

Chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Ade Sudrajat said there was no objection to cotton imports from the United States increasing with compensation for Indonesia's garment and textile exports to increase. "This will produce a two-state win-win solution. The point is how to create jobs for the people, "he said in Bandung on Wednesday.

Ade said imported cotton from America supplies 40 percent of domestic needs. "Imports are greater than 45 percent of Brazil, the rest are from Australia and various countries," he said.

The United States officially request to World Trade Organization (WTO) to impose sanctions of US $ 350 million or around Rp. 5 trillion on Indonesia. This American demand is the aftermath of Indonesia's defeat at the WTO appeal session in November 2017.

Menteri Perdagangan Membuka Peluang Impor Kapas
