PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk (SRIL) or Sritex is arguably one of the largest textile businesses in Indonesia. Starting from Klewer Market, now it has 50,000 employees. To be in the current position, a lot of dynamics.

Sritex President Director Iwan Setiawan Lukminto recounts how grieving he faced in raising the textile business with Sritex.

Precisely for 10 years from 1998 to 2008, the textile industry was labeled as sunset industry. With this label, the textile industry is considered high risk for lending. Finally, the industry is difficult to grow.

"From 1998 to 2008 textiles were categorized as sunset industry. Stigma by Bank Indonesia because there was a big player that was not performing," said Iwan

Iwan said, the stigma attached to the 10 years, making it difficult for textile industry players to get capital because banks are reluctant to give loans. He said the condition was very difficult for industry players.

Because he did not get access to credit, Iwan said the textile industry was difficult to grow at that time. In fact, if there is no sunset industry stigma, the textile industry can grow better.

"The impact is to this industry, therefore in that year it is difficult to grow. If there is no stigma, Sritex is even bigger 5 times than what it is now," he continued.

Apart from the difficult times, Iwan said the current condition was far better than before. Especially because Indonesian textile products are far more competitive with Chinese products.
