The textile industry has now shifted and is no longer the main one. According to Ade Sudrajat, Chairperson of the Indonesian Textile Association (API), until the end of 2017, the textile industry contributed 12.54 billion US dollars to the country's foreign exchange and potentially increased to 20 billion US Dollars.

But the contribution was ranked third after the tourism sector of 20 billion US Dollars and the palm oil industry of 22.9 billion US Dollars which ranks first. "Textiles are not the main thing, the priority has shifted. Now people are more willing to travel and culinary," said Ade, on the sidelines of the "National Textile Dialogue"

The dialogue, which was opened by the Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukito, discussed a strategy to improve and optimize the national textile and textile products (TPT) industry. Although it is no longer became number one, continued Ade, the textile and textile products industry is one of the national strategic manufacturing industries in the Indonesian economy which contributes to two national interests, namely contributing to the social and economic fields.

In the social field, the textile industry absorbs a lot of labor and opens employment. In the economic sector the textile industry generates huge export earnings. "Foreign exchange from textile exports is more than US $ 3 billion annually," said Ade.

He hopes that the national textile industry can increase exports of various countries. Especially with the strengthening of the US dollar against the current rupiah, it is an opportunity to increase exports which in turn can be the largest foreign exchange earner.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukito said that the textile and textile products (TPT) industry is still a main product. The export is considered to be able to compete with textile products from other countries. Therefore, there are efforts to increase exports from related parties. Especially when exports increase, it has been ascertained that the domestic textile industry is also being boosted.

Therefore, educating the public to use domestic textile or garment products. Moreover, the quality of domestic textile products is not inferior to foreign products. Even domestic products have been widely exported. One of them is by Sritex, where export is carried out with high specifications.

Dolar AS Menguat, Kesempatan Genjot Ekspor Tekstil
