Textile industry strategy for market optimization PDF Print E-mail

The Indonesian Textile Association (API) as an association that oversees business people in the textile sector again held a National Textile Dialogue which aims to improve and optimize Indonesian textile products at the same time.

The textile and textile products industry (TPT) Indonesia is one of the national strategic manufacturing industries in the Indonesian economy, because of its contribution to 2 (two) national interests.

The first is in the social field, through employment and opening employment. The second is in the economic field, which is to produce an export foreign exchange net of more than 3 billion US dollars every year.

Until the end of 2017, the textile industry contributed $ 12.54 billion and has the potential to increase to $ 20 billion. This contribution is ranked 3rd after palm oil products of $ 22.9 billion and the tourism sector of $ 20 billion.

"The textile industry itself is a government priority industry that is expected to increase Indonesia's exports to foreign countries. Even so, the trend of TPT exports currently tends to stagnate or decline," said Ade Sudrajat, General Chair of the API, in a press release on Wednesday (5/9)

With China's dominance in the global textile market and intense competition with other countries in Southeast Asia such as Vietnam, there are a lot of homework to be addressed by the government and business people.

Some core issues such as regulating the import of illegal finished goods that hamper growth of domestic products, regulation of raw material policies that hamper the growth rate of Indonesian textile products in the international arena and the expansion of global markets are the focus of the trade on this side of the meeting.

"Indonesia's position on the global textile market is only 2% so far, far smaller than China which ranked first at 30%," he continued.

Challenges around employment and inflation that occur in China are opportunities for countries like Indonesia to be able to increase their contribution to the global market. API hopes to encourage the performance of business people to continue to increase these contributions through synergies between the government and businesses.
