The Minister of Trade, Enggartiasto Lukita, held a discussion with the Indonesian Textile Association (API). In the discussion, he invited the textile and textile product industry (TPT) players to increase their production, so that they could dominate the domestic market.

He explained, TPT was considered as the sunset industry because it had experienced its heyday, but then dropped dramatically. This is because this industry is less able to control the market and is very dependent on imports of raw materials.

"TPT is not the sunset industry. This industry is the third largest foreign exchange mainstay after tourism and palm oil. This industry continues to grow and develop along with the development of fashion and the era of digitalization," he said.

He hopes, TPT can be host in their own country and encourage increased exports to global markets, such as the United States and Europe. Thus, it continues to accelerate the completion of foreign trade negotiations.

Minister Enggar explained that his team had completed negotiations between the Chilean-Indonesia CEPA, Indonesia-Palestine MoU,  ASEAN-Hong Kong FTA and Investment Agreement, ASEAN Comprehensive Investment Agreement (AMA), ASEAN-Japan Investment, Service, and MTA Agreements, and Protocol to Amend Indonesia-Palestine (PTA).

While some negotiations that are still in process are Indonesia-Australia CEPA, Indonesia-European CEPA, Indonesia-EFTA CEPA, Indonesia-Iran PTA, Indonesia-Turkey CEPA, Indonesia-Mozambique PTA, Indonesia-Tunisia PTA, and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.

In addition to completing the agreement, the Ministry of Trade will also bring together the API with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) to work together to increase TPT.

Industri tekstil andalan devisa nomor 3 terbesar Indonesia

"TPT bukanlah industri sunset.

Menteri Enggar menjelaskan, pihaknya telah menyelesaikan perundingan Indonesia-Chile CEPA, MoU Indonesia-Palestina, ASEAN-Hongkong FTA and Investment Agreement, Protocol to amend ASEAN Comprehensive Investment Agreement (ACIA), ASEAN-Japan Investment, Service, and MTA Agreements, dan Protocol to Amend Indonesia-Palestina (PTA).
