The textile and textile products industry is believed to be able to contribute significantly to foreign exchange earnings from exports this year. Throughout January-July 2018, the value of shipping Indonesian textile products has reached US $ 7.74 billion and is targeted to reach the end of 2018 by US $ 14 billion.

Secretary General of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Ernovian G Ismy said the government's target could be achieved. "The possibility is more than US $ 13.7 billion," Ernovian said.

The API also requested that exports could increase, the government could accelerate the implementation of the European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA). Then accelerate the negotiation of bilateral trade balance agreements with the United States (US) for cotton fiber and textile products.

Then trade diplomacy with countries as the main supplier of raw cotton, disolving pulp, petrochemicals, and others to Indonesia. In addition, trade promotion to countries with tropical climates and beaches.

It's just that the API sees each of its industries, both upstream industries - industries between - downstream industries, running individually and there is no harmonization of cooperation between their industries in production and sales. As a result, supply chains in the domestic national textile industry do not work.

Therefore, it is necessary to form a structured pattern of production and sales, starting from the manufacture of fibers & filaments, yarn producers, woven & knit fabric manufacturers, to apparel manufacturers, and other textile finished product manufacturers. This is so that a supply chain is productive and efficient.

One business actor, namely PT Century Textile Industry Tbk (Centex) also wants to strengthen exports. Ho Soo Boon, President Director of PT Century Textile Industry Tbk (Centex) explained that the proportion of exports is still 80% of total sales and the rest is domestic. "We have a new machine that is expected to increase our sales," said Boon.

The newly targeted export market is in the US. If initially the proportion per year was only 4% increased to 11% of the total production. But in quantity the market in Japan is still the biggest proportion.

Some time ago, the Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto explained that exports in the textile industry could be increased again as the completion of the comprehensive economic cooperation agreement between Indonesia and Australia (IA-CEPA). Minister of Industry explained, the import duty of Indonesian textile and clothing products to Australia will be abolished or to be 0%. This bilateral policy will be signed later this year.
