Minister of Trade: Textile Exports Can Recover Trade Balance PDF Print E-mail

The Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita said Indonesia's non-oil and gas trade balance in August 2018 recorded a surplus amid a trade balance that was still experiencing deificits.

For the remainder of this year, Enggar stressed the importance of restoring export constraints for mainstay commodities such as coal and crude palm oil (CPO) while continuing to boost exports of manufacturing industries.

Yes, what is certain is that we originally dropped because coal traders cannot export, we know that CPO is subject to high import duties in several countries, then there is the imposition of DMO [obligation to supply domestic coal needs]. This was restored, while the manufacturing industry was raised, "he explained

One manufacturing industry export commodity that he thinks is very likely to increase is textiles and textile products (TPT), where an increase in exports to the United States (US) and Australia, he said, can reach 20-25%.

"From a visit to the US, we will absorb cotton from the US but its textile exports can also increase significantly, being calculated, it can be around 20-25%," he said.

In addition, the signing of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA CEPA) which is scheduled for November according to him can also increase the value of textile exports with the same amount.

Previously, the Indonesian Textile Association (API) targeted export growth this year to reach 8% or worth US $ 13.5 billion.

As for 2025, API targets textile exports to reach US $ 30 billion.

"In 2020 we hope the EU CEPA agreement [the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement] has been ratified, in which Europe is the main market for our textiles with a value of almost more than US $ 800 billion," said API General Chairman, Ade Sudradjat.

"Indonesia only has a market share of around 2%. If we can increase it to only 5%, it means that it has more than US $ 30 billion," he added.

Mendag: Ekspor Tekstil Bisa Pulihkan Neraca DagangMendag: Ekspor Tekstil Bisa Pulihkan Neraca Dagang
