Imported Raw Materials, Indonesian Fashion Products Must Compete with Thailand PDF Print E-mail

The Indonesian fashion industry is one of the largest foreign exchange earners. Unfortunately, local textile or fashion products are still less competitive with neighboring countries. The main problem is because raw materials are still expensive.

IKM Director General Gati Wibawaningsih said that raw materials were still imported. That's why Indonesian fashion products are still less competitive with Thailand. However, Gati said that Indonesia was still superior in terms of design.

"Many raw materials in Indonesia are still imported so we don't compete with prices. We are less competitive with Thai, second  China. Their own raw materials are cheap. When it comes to design, Indonesia is good," Gati said.

Gati added, the designs of Indonesian designers are still far better than neighboring countries. Muslim fashion collections by local designers also have a charm that always steal the attention when exhibited abroad.

Not to mention accessories that are also in demand by tourists. In addition, Gati also said that Indonesia is still one of the countries with the largest shoe exporter in the world.

"Indonesian shoe exports number clams in the world. Yes, many skins are also like buffalo or cow skin," said Gati.

Bahan Baku Impor, Produk Fesyen RI Harus Bersaing Dengan Thailand

Industri fesyen Indonesia menjadi salah satu penyumbang devisa terbesar.
