The Ministry of Trade (Ministry of Trade) is aiming to increase the value of Indonesia's trade with European member countries of  European Free Trade Association (EFTA) twice in the next year. At present, Switzerland is one of the members of EFTA which is actively negotiating plans to increase exports of Indonesian products.

"I am optimistic that Indonesia and EFTA will increase the value of trade next year," said the Indonesian Minister of Trade, Enggartiasto Lukita.

Based on data from the EFTA Secretariat, two-thirds of the total exports to the EFTA country come from Indonesia's trade priority sectors, including textiles and textile products, footwear and footwear product, electronics and machinery, forest products and furniture, and coffee and spices.

On the other hand, still from the same data, Indonesia recorded faster export growth to EFTA countries compared to Indonesia's exports to the world. Since 2010, Indonesia's exports to EFTA have grown by an average of 14% per year. While Indonesia's exports to the world on average only grew by 3%.

At present, the Minister of Trade Lukita is actively discussing the continuation of  CEPA Indonesia-EFTA negotiations with Swiss Economic Minister Johann Schneider-Ammann.

"Switzerland is very eager to finish  negotiations that have reached 15 rounds," said Schneider-Ammann who was accompanied by EFTA's Chief Negotiator, Ambassador (Ambassador) Mark Schlagenhof.

So far, Switzerland is Indonesia's largest trading partner among EFTA member countries. The trade value of the two countries reached US $ 2 billion, with Indonesia's export value of US $ 1.2 billion.

In the same vein, on that occasion, Enggar, accompanied by Indonesian Ambassador Bern Muliaman D Hadad, Head of the Indonesian negotiating team Ambassador Sumadi Brotodiningrat, Directorate General (Dirjen) PEN of the Ministry of Trade, Director General of PPI of the Ministry of Trade and Director of Bilateral Negotiations of the Ministry of Trade, also expressed the same desire from the Government of Indonesia .

According to him, the total value of Indonesia's trade with EFTA could double after  agreement with the Swiss Government was signed.

Previously, Indonesia-Switzerland had established cooperation in the Sustainable Cocoa Production Program / SCPP since 2012. The program focused on providing training to cocoa farmers in order to increase their production.

Not only that, SCPP has also carried out a comprehensive approach with all key stakeholders in the cocoa industry, including farmers, buyers and processing companies in order to improve the cocoa value chain.

For the time being, Switzerland is focusing on developing Indonesian product exports through the Swiss Import Promotion Program (SIPPO) which prioritizes three types of products.

"Wood-based products, marine products, and spices are the main programs of SIPPO to encourage Indonesian exports to Switzerland," Muliaman Hadad, the Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, said.

He believes that IE-CEPA will be the engine driving Indonesia's exports to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Furthermore, he also hopes that this IE-CEPA agreement can be signed soon in November.

Nilai perdagangan kedua negara ini mencapai US$2 miliar, dengan nilai ekspor Indonesia sebesar US$1,2 miliar.
