The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Enggartiasto Lukita said that the trade relations between Indonesia and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) will continue to be improved.

Among them with Switzerland, one of four members of EFTA besides Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. Therefore, last week Indonesian government and Switzerland held an Indonesia-Swiss Business Forum in Zurich, Switzerland.

The business forum was opened by  Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland and Lichtenstein Muliaman Hadad, and was attended by Head of International Relations, Economie Suisse Jan Atteslander, and Head of Bilateral Economic Relations Secretary of State for Economic Relations Erwin Arjuna Bollingerrs.

Currently known, more than 150 Swiss companies invest in Indonesia and create more than 20 thousand jobs.

"Hopefully, this business forum can strengthen relations between businessmen of both countries and become a means to convey the latest economic conditions," said the Minister of Trade when giving a speech at the Swiss-Indonesian Business Forum, in Zurich, Switzerland.

Through its official statement, in addition to the business forum,  Minister of Trade also opened a Swiss-Indonesian Business Matching. Business matching is a one on one meeting between Indonesian and Swiss business people directly. At this meeting, the businessmen of both countries could negotiate directly and immediately conduct trade cooperation.

The Minister of Trade also invited business people from Indonesia and Switzerland to take advantage of  Indonesia-EFTA cooperation before the agreement was finalized. "It is expected that business people from both countries can immediately take advantage of the agreement."

The Minister of Trade is optimistic that there will be an increase in  trade value of Indonesia and EFTA in 2019. "total trade between Indonesia and the EFTA country will double after this agreement is signed," he said as quoted from Antara.

In the event,  Minister of Trade briefly explained  development of palm oil products in  European Union. The palm oil sector significantly contributes to the Indonesian economy and is a source of income for 5.3 million workers and affects 21 million Indonesians.

Regarding the contribution of palm oil to sustainable development goals (SDGs), the Minister of Trade affirmed Indonesian government is very committed to sustainable palm oil products. In fact, President Jokowi signed Presidential Instruction No. 8 on September 13, 2018 concerning Postponement and Evaluation of Licensing for Oil Palm Plantations and Increasing Productivity of Oil Palm Plantations.

Market penetration

Arlinda, Director General of National Export Development, said that in the Swiss trade mission, she was bringing in a number of business players from palm oil sector, textile and garment products, jewelry, coffee, paper products, bread cups and paper napkins, as well as hygienic chef caps.

"The trade mission is one of the ways to penetrate the export market which can increase trading volume faster because businesses can meet their partners directly," said Arlinda.

Trade missions were also used to promote the 2018 Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI). TEI is the next stage to get to know more and to immediately open the way for Indonesia's leading export products in the European market, especially Switzerland and Spain.\

Penetrasi pasar
