The Indonesian Textile Association (API) assesses the provincial minimum wage increase (UMP) next year as a good step which shows the consistency of the implementation of regulations.

API Chairman Ade Sudrajat explained, the UMP increase of 8.03% in 2019 was a good step because it was in line with economic growth and inflation. The Central Statistics Agency recorded inflation this year of 2.88% and economic growth of 5.15%.

Ade assessed that the increase in UMP could provide business certainty for industrial players. Sales planning and production costs are considered to be able to remain stable as the increase applies.

"This condition [UMP increase] provides business certainty as well as a balance picture between employers and workers," said Ade.

Ade said, the increase in UMP would not burden the textile industry. For him greater interests must be prioritized, and industry players can follow suit.

The increase in the UMP itself was conveyed by the Minister of Manpower Hanif Dhakiri at the Presidential Palace. The increase refers to the additional formula of economic growth and inflation as stipulated in Article 44 Paragraphs 1 and 2 of Government Regulation Number 78 of 2015.

UMP 2019 Naik, Begini Respons Pengusaha Tekstil
